Nice to meet you, I'm Laura, an illustrator and designer living and working in Glasgow.
I graduated from the Glasgow School of Art with a BA (Hons) degree in Visual Communication (Illustration) in 2004. After graduating, I worked freelance as an illustrator, but found the big bad world of working for myself a scary place, so went off to work in marketing and design agencies, where I earned my keep managing clients and projects. I built my confidence up working with big and small clients and really getting an understanding of the design world before getting back to the freelance world of illustration again in 2014.
As well as commissioned work for companies and organisations like the National Museum of Scotland, House for an Art Lover and Prudential, I also run my own small stationery business, Paper Heart Stationery. Born from my love of colour, it gives me an opportunity to create paper goods with my own illustrations, and to work in the wedding industry with couples who are looking for something original for their wedding day. I've recently been commissioned to paint sculptures including the Big Bucket Trail Oor Wullie and the Giraffe About Town sculptures, which has become a really enjoyable and different element of my work.
I also love to create personal artwork - having no brief can be a welcome challenge, and at the end of the day, I just love to draw! My work is always drawn freehand, and includes detailed areas and pattern. Almost all of my work is drawn using Staedtler pigment liner pens and Windsor and Newton Promarkers, or when I need to work at scale it's created on my iPad in Procreate.
